THE HINDERED SETTLING OF CEMENT PARTICLES IN FRESHLY PREPARED PORTLAND CEMENT PASTES: LITERATURE REVIEW - 1
A general review of the settling of particulate suspensions is presented in the paper and the undesirable side-effects of the sedimentation of the solids in freshly prepared Portland cement paste, mortar, and concrete are discussed. Previous discussions on the mode of settlement of cement systems have been based on the results of measurements at the top surfaces, either of the rate of subsidence of the solids, or the rate of apperance of bleedwater. A critical analysis of the published data reveals inconsistencies in the theories and indicates the need for further experimental work to measure the changes in density of cement pastes in the early stages of hydration. /Author/TRRL/
