NEW EPOXIDE BINDER

Details are given of a new epoxide binder developed by Bakelite Xylonite Ltd. in conjunction with Midland Yorkshire Tar Distillers Ltd. for providing, with bauxite chippings, a skid resistant surface dressing for localized danger spots. The binder is compounded of R 19563 resin, Q 19564 hardener, and Z 19565 tar based extender. The standard formulation is 100 parts by weight of resin, 25 of hardener and 200 of extender indicating a 200% loading of the resin. Laying techniques used in trials in Leeds and in Warwickshire are described, and costs quoted. /TRRL/
