MOPAC CONTROL SYSTEM SPEEDS INVENTORY AND MOVEMENT
The Transportation Control System project of the Missouri Pacific is now controlling car, train and terminal operations with computer-based techniques. Data on inventories and movements of cars on the entire system are maintained in the computer at MP's St. Louis headquaters. At the yard level, MP has developed a standardized Yard and Terminal Subsystem (YATS) which ties in with the overall TCS network. YATS has produced substantial improvement in yards, more than enough to offset the cost of computerizing car information and processing at the individual yard level. Some data is processed on minicomputer subsystems at individual yards.
