PRACTICAL TESTS CONDUCTED ON THE CONTAINER SHIP "HAKONE MARU"
In the torsional test, torsional moment was loaded in the hull by filling the water ballast tanks located at diagonal positions to the midship, and deformation of the hatch openings, angle of torsion of the hull, horizontal displacement of the upper deck and stress concentration at the hatch corners were measured. The measured results showed a good agreement with the theoretically calculated values. The vibration test was conducted by the use of a large-sized exciter on the container ship in sea trial and as a result, valuable data were obtained, which can be used for the solution of vibration problems of container ships. Concerning the coupled horizontal and vertical vibration, many points still remain to be solved.
