SEA WATER CORROSION AND STEELS RESISTANT TO IT
The bitterness and complexity of sea water corrosion have caused many troubles on steel piles in harbor, ocean steel structures, underwater pipe lines, sea water pipes, desalination plants and heat exchanger pipes. Plain carbon steels or Cu bearing steels have mainly been used after painting, lining or electric protection against corrosion, but the difficulties in maintenance and repair has limited their effect. Recent trend of piers is becoming larger and the ocean development requires the steels used in these circumstances to have proper mechanical properties, higher weldability and resistance to sea water corrosion, especially in submerged zone.
