USE OF THERMO CALORIMETER FOR STUDYING HEAT EVOLUTION IN CONCRETE DURING EARLY HARDENING
ANVANDNING AV TERMOS KALORIMETER FOR UNDERSOKNING AV VARMEUTVECKLING HOS HARDNANTE BETONG
In order to evaluate concrete mix-designs according to thermal changes it is necessary to determine heat changes in concrete during the first seven days as well as the compressive strength at different ages (28 and 90 days). Details are given of the design, calibration and operation of a calorimeter used to measure the heat produced by the hydration of cement. For practical purposes, it seems preferable to express the heat of hydration in kilocalories per cubic meter of concrete (not in calories per gram of cement), and to estimate the rise in the temperature of concrete with a known compressive strength. Mention is made of the influence of cement type and retarders on the compressive strength and evolution in the strength of concrete. /IRRD/
