CONTAINERSHIP COST MODEL
In an analysis of through-transport system costs, a model was developed to provide a means of rapidly estimating the technical and economic characteristics, and from these the capital and operating costs of a cellular container vessel of any specified size and speed, carrying between 800 and 3500 containers at a speed between 20 and 35 knots. The cost model is described in sufficient detail to allow alternative calculations to be made, and in particular to enable the effect of alternative labor and steel costs to be examined.
