DIRECT METHOD OF DETERMINING THE WATER/CEMENT RATIO IN FRESH CONCRETE
EINE DIREKTE METHODE ZUR BESTIMMUNG DES W: Z-VERHAELTNISSES IN FRISCHBETON
Details are given of a direct method of determining the water/cement ratio in fresh concrete. The method requires very little apparatus, and is applied to a sample of fresh concrete in its wet phase. The principle of the measurement is based on the phenomenon of the separation in water of several ions in constant quantity; this is independent of the water/cement ratio. In the method described here chromate ions have been selected, but others such as alkali ions, for example, could be chosen. Attention is drawn to possible factors which would limit the use of chromate ions as analytical ingredients.
