EXPERIMENTAL SITE FOR GRAVEL-CEMENT CONTAINING FILLERISED CEMENT
CHANTIER EXPERIMENTAL DE GRAVE-CIMENT A CIMENT FILLERISE
In 1965 during the construction of a new pavement, an experiment was made with the use of fillerised cement for stabilising a material used in the roadbase. The hypothesis was put forward that the use of such cement would reduce shrinkage cracks appearing on the pavement surface. To verify this hypothesis, an experiment was conducted, a description of which is given in this article. The roadbase of the experimental road was stabilized with the same amount of (1) Lafarge 861 cement (experimental stretch) and (20 Cpall 325 cement (control stretch). The behaviour of the pavement was controlled by means of deflection measurements, Raleigh velocity measurements, and two series of observations of cracks (1969-1971). It was shown that compared with the control stretch, the experimental stretch had lower stregth and stiffness properties, and that no transverse cracks appeared on the surface of the experimental stretch while cracking was extensive in the control stretch. In 1971 longitudinal cracks appeared in the experimental stretch.
