DETERMINATION OF LOUDNESS AND NOISE CLASS BY MEANS OF AN AUTOMATIC DIGITAL COMPUTER
BESTIMMUNG DER LAUTHEIT UND DEE GERAEUSCHKLASSE MIT HILFE EINES SELBSTTAETIGEN DIGITALRECHNERS
Time-consuming calculation of loudness in accordance with the Swicker and Stevens graphical and analytical methods, and classification into noise classes N can be simplified by means of programmed methods of calculation. A computer program was developed for the special conditions relating to the measurement of noise from diesel engines. The input data consist of noise pressures in 1/3 octave bands and obtained from characteristic values of the noise field. From this, loudness and noise class are calculated. Statistical treatment of these engine noises led to relations between the loudness and the noise classes depending on the frequency composition. Differences with noise evaluation are given.
