SURFACE DRESSINGS FOR HEAVILY-TRAFFICKED ROADS
LES ENDUITS SUPERFICIELS SUR LES ROUTES A GRAND TRAFIC
Because of present day economic pressures, it is necessary to achieve waterproofing and geometric roughness, of pavement surfaces with surface dressings, even on roads carrying heavy and fast traffic. Ingredients available at the present time (highly viscous binders, natural aggregates, dopes) and current equipment enable such dressings to be successfully applied provided that, at all stages, (preparation of the pavement, formulation and programming) special attention be paid to quality and application procedures. Heavy traffic will help to compact the dressing during the first critical hours after application. The extra costs involved are then not excessive compared to the cost of standard dressings. developments in the chemical industry should lead to the use in the near future of high-quality ingredients for dressings to be utilized on roads carrying any type of traffic.
