PGH-TUCUMCARI. SUCCESSFUL APPLICATION OF PERFORMANCE SPECIFICATIONS
The Tucumcari is a 75-ft gunboat that displaces 60-t and operates at speeds above 40 knots. It is the Navy's first waterjet-propelled, submerged-foil hydrofoil gunboat; its propulsion is provided by a 3200-hp turbine engine driving an aluminum centrifugal pump that expels 29,000 gpm. Details are given for the following key features--the canard foil arrangement (single foil forward, main foils aft); the negative (dropped) anhedral on the afterfoils; the turbine-driven, foilborne, waterjet propulsion system; and the electronic/hydraulic control system.
