BASIC PRINCIPLES FOR THE CALCULATION OF THE EFFECTS OF CREEP IN CONCRETE
DIE GRUNDLAGEN FUER DIE BERECHNUNG DER FOLGEN DES BETONKRIECHENS
For the practical evaluation of creep behaviour, it is useful to differentiate creep effects according to their causes - stresses due to loadings, or stresses due to imposed deformations. A linear relation between stress and creep deformations is adequate for the calculations. It is necessary to take into account the basically different phenomena of plastic flow and delayed elasticity, and it is advisable to describe both effects using the creep coefficient, defined as the ratio of creep deformation to elastic deformation. In estimating the creep coefficient, the following effects must be taken into account: concrete constituents, age at time of loading, ambient conditions and geometry of the structural member.
