Traffic Safety Facts 2023 Data: Alcohol-Impaired Driving

In 2023 there were 12,429 fatalities in motor vehicle traffic crashes in which at least one driver was alcohol-impaired. This represented 30 percent of all traffic fatalities in the United States for the year. Traffic fatalities in alcohol-impaired-driving crashes decreased by 7.6 percent (13,458 to 12,429 fatalities) from 2022 to 2023. On average, one alcohol-impaired-driving fatality occurred every 42 minutes in 2023.
