FULL-DEPTH ASPHALT PAVEMENT. STATE OF DEVELOPMENT AND POSSIBLE USES IN THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY
ASPHALTOBERBAU. ENTWICKLUNGSSTAND UND ANWENDUNGSMOEGLICHKEITEN IN DER BUNDESREPUBLIK
Full-depth asphalt construction combined all the bitumen-bound layers, including the bitumen-bound forst-blanket, as a first roadbase, which needs to be less thick than the old type of forst blanket. Even the heat-insulation is better. The problem of equivalent bearing capacity is solved. Advantages of the construction method are: Maintenance of gravel stock, fewer quantities to be transported, more uniform equipment, greater weather resistance and better mechanical properties. Problems which have not been solved relate to the formation of ice lenses. The influence of water and mix design and incorporation on weak soil. Despite this, research and experimental roads at home and abroad show that full-depth asphalt pavement.
