CTRA RESEARCH NEWS SURFACE DRESSING BINDERS
The "critical adhesion temperature" of a road binder is defined as the minimum temperature at which the binder will hold applied stone chippings against normal traffic forces. This article describes a test developed by the Coal Tar Research Association for determining this parameter (C.A.T.) A summary is given of the results obtained for tar, bitumen, PVC tar, and tar-bitumen mixtures, considering different conditions, e.g. presence of dust or water on the chippings.
