RESEARCH ON THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE GRADATION OF AGGREGATES OF THE BITUMINOUS CONCRETE
The grading limits of granular materials conforming to the Standard Technical Specification A.265 are very wide. For the design of a bituminous concrete mix, a specific applicable grading is given within these limits. The importance of the position of the aggregate grading curve in relation to the specification limits is studied, and the results show that the characteristics of the bituminous concrete are considerably affected by the position of this curve, the best results being obtained with the median curve. The most unfavourable results are obtained with curves situated on a non-parallel line to the Specification limits.
