RETRACTABLE VANE FOR STUDYING THE CONDITIONS OF COHENSIVE SOIL ROUND PILES
SCISSOMETRE RETRACTABLE POUR L'ETUDE DE L'ETAT DES SOLS COHERENTS AUTOUR
The authors recall that pile driving and drilling modify the mdeium in which the piles are driven or drilled. In the case of driven piles, the desnity of sand increases, but cohesive soil is distrubed. The same thing happens with drilled piles. It is necessary to control the state of the soil round the pile at several stages, as the degree of disturbance decreases with time. This operation is difficult to carry out from the surface. The simplest and safest method consists in taking direct measurements through the shaft of the pile, but this is not always possible. This article describes a type of vane developed for this purpose.
