SIMPLE EQUIPMENT FOR APPLYING LOADS TO EXPERIMENTAL PILES
UN APPAREILLAGE SIMPLE POUR LA MISE EN CHARGE DES PIEUX D'ESSAIS
The authors list the reasons why it was found necessary to replace the manual hydraulic jack system of pile loading with a new simple, strong and low-cost type of equipment. The new method selected uses hydropneumatic batteries. Details are given of the design and operation of the equipment, and of the results of tests on (1) vertically loaded piles at a normal loading rate, and (2) piles subjected to very rapid cycles of horizontal loads. With regard to long-term tests (several weeks or months), Further tests are necessary to control the stability of the system, in particular under the influence of temperature variations.
