GATUVAEMNING
THIS IS A DESCRIPTION OF THE ROAD HEATING SYSTEM IN THE CENTRE OF THE TOWN VAESTERAAS IN THE MIDDLE OF SWEDEN. THE HEATING IS BY MEANS OF EMBEDDED POLYETHYLENE PIPES, AND IS AUTOMATICALLY REGULATED TO ACHIEVE A PERMANENT SURFACE TEMPERATURE OF + 5 DEGREES C DURING THE WINTER. DETAILS ON THE TECHNICAL PERFORMANCE OF THE COIL SYSTEM ARE GIVEN. REMARKABLE IS THE ABSENCE OF VALVES IN THE SYSTEM. A BRIEF COST ANALYSIS IS PRESENTED AS WELL AS A DISCUSSION OF THE ADVANTAGES OF ROAD HEATING IN GENERAL AND A QUANTIFICATION OF SOME OF THESE BENEFITS. COMPARED TO CONVENTIONAL WINTER MAINTENANCE, THE ROAD HEATING SO FAR AMOUNTS TO 1-2 SW.CR. MORE PER SQUARE METRE.
