INFORMATION THEORY FOR THE PREDICTION OF CONCRETE STRENGTHS
The paper presents the application of the information theory to the analysis of the strength data of concrete specimens. The theory has been successfully employed in the past for analysing various experimental results including those of fatigue strength tests. Test data, often neglected in the final analysis for lack of complete details, can also be used with due care for obtaining more information about the strengths of the specimens. The principle of maximum entropy predicts the probability distributions for strengths of different specimens. The results are arranged in two groups, those tested to failure, and those abandoned before failure. The final strength reliabilities are obtained by combining information from both groups. Results of compressive strength tests on concrete cylinders are studied as fields of potential application of the theory.
