INCREASED STRENGTH OF PLASTIC-REPAIRED CONCRETE WITH NEW TECHNIQUE

THIS ARTICLE PRESENTS A METHOD OF REPAIRING CONCRETE CONSTRUCTIONS BY MEANS OF INJECTED PLASTIC COMPOUND. THIS METHOD IS DEVELOPED BY THE SWEDISH COMPANY AB STRAENGBETONG . THE PLASTIC COMPOUND IS INJECTED IN THE CONCRETE CRACKS THROUGH GUIDERS BY A MANUAL INJECTOR GUN. DIFFERENT TYPES OF EPOXY-PLASTICS AND POLYURETHANE ARE USED. IN ADDITION TO THE REPAIRING OF CRACKS THE PLASTIC INJECTION COULD ALSO BE USED TO IMPROVE THE PROPERTIES OF CONCRETE, ESPECIALLY CONCERNING ADHESION AND SHRINKAGE. THIS REPAIRING TECHNIQUE IS PRACTISED MAINLY IN ROAD BRIDGES, WHERE THE REINFORCEMENT EARS ARE DAMAGED BY CORROSION.
