NEW METHOD FOR SEDIMENTATION ANALYSIS
NY METOD FOER SEDIMENTATIONSANALYS
DETERMINATION OF THE GRAIN SIZE DISTRIBUTION IN FINE GRAINED SOILS IS GENERALLY MADE BY SEDIMENTATION ANALYSIS. THIS ARTICLE PRESENTS A NEW METHOD FOR DETERMINING THE PARTICLE CONCENTRATION. THE METHOD IS CALLED THE "WEIGHT- METHOD" AND IT IS DEVELOPED BY THE SWEDISH GEOTECHNICAL INSTITUTE. THE WEIGHT OF A CERTAIN UNIT IS DETERMINED IN THE DISPERSION FLUID AS WELL AS IN THE SUSPENSION. THE PARTICLE CONCENTRATION (P) IS DETERMINED BY A FORMULA WHICH INDICATES THE WEIGHT IN THE DISPERSION FLUID, THE WEIGHT IN THE SUSPENSION AND THE RELATION FORMED BY THE PARTICLE DENSITY, THE DISPERSION FLUID DENSITY AND THE VOLUME OF THE UNIT OF WEIGHT.
