ENGINEERING A 510-TON LASH CRANE
The LASH system, a highly efficient means of transportation, utilizes lighters as floating containers which are stored in the holds of the ship and loaded or unloaded as required. Main performance requirements were that the crane be able to lift fully loaded lighters weighing up to 510 t in a load cycle for a median operational condition in 15 min. Since the ship is independent of port facilities, the crane is capable of operating unimpaired in the environment of the open sea or, more specifically, at a 3 degree heel or trim of the ship.
