THE SNCF PLANS TO INSTALL APPROXIMATELY 1100 AUTOMATIC LEVEL CROSSINGS DURING 1972
LA SNCF ENVISAGE D'AUTOMATISER ENVIRON 1100 PASSAGES A NIVEAU AU COURS DE L'ANNEE 1972
Following a large increase in the number of accidents at level crossings in France, measures are being taken to ensure greater safety. In 1971, 900 level crossings were equipped with automatically controlled half barriers. Further efforts in this direction will be made during 1972. Experience has shown that automatically controlled level crossings equipped with sound and light warning devices are considerably safer than manually controlled barriers the operation of which depends entirely on human factors. This article reproduces the speech made by the minister of transport to a member of parliameter asking a question on level crossing accidents.
