THE INFLUENCE OF HIGH TEMPERATURES ON THE DEFORMATION BEHAVIOUR OF CONCRETE
ZUM EINFLUSS ERHOEHTER TEMPERATUREN AUF DAS FORMAENDERUNGSVERHALTEN VON BETON
While temperatures of up to 150 degrees C have relatively little influence on the compressive strength of concrete, even slight increases in temperature can have very great effects on the creep and shrinkage behaviour of concrete. Creep deformations at 70 degrees C are approximately three times as great and those at 120 C four to five times as great as creep deformations at room temperature. Moreover the modulus of elasticity decreases somewhat at increased temperatures, on average about 0.2 percent per degree C. Finally, high temperatures can lead to damage caused by marked shrinkage of the cement, especially when there is a great difference in the coefficients of thermal expansion of the cement and the aggregates.
