RECENT DEVELOPMENTS IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF CONCRETE ROADS

Hitherto Concrete Surfacings have been regarded as having two functions: to act as a carriageway and to transfer the bases was usually not taken into account. Tests carried out in the USA and theoretical investigations show that the stress on the concrete surfacing is more or less dissipated depending on the stiffness and the bonding action between the surfacing and the stabilized layer the inclusion of stabilized layers into the supporting system leads to new methods of constructing concrete roads, enabling better adaptation to bad subsoil conditions to be achieved by means of partial or complete elimination of the frost blanket. particularly high bearing capacity can be brought about by the use of a thin, continuously reinforced concrete surfacing, where the bond between the surfacing and the cement-stabilized layer is even guaranteed after repeated loading and the effects of temperature.
