TRAFFIC CONTROL IN URBAN AREAS

REGULATION DU TRAFFIC EN MILIEU URBAIN

Defects in the manual or intuitive traffic control of intersections are discussed. A method is presented of calculating the green phase of traffic signals as a function of the numerous parameters to take into account. Control can be vehicle-actuated; for the control of a whole route, the method of maximising green waves and the off-set method are feasible solutions. Computerized techniques can also be applied to the calculation of a network thanks to the programs established by the setra.
