RECENT ADVANCES IN HARBOR RADAR TECHNIQUES
New radar systems (produced by DECCA) have been installed in various ports. One new feature is the DECCA computer assisted measurement system (CAMS) which enables the operator to fix any ships position instantly relative to any other position on the board. CAMS will: measure range and bearing, store selected positions, measure any position in reference to a stored one, calculate the course made good, and predict the closest point of approach (CPA). The port of London and Scheveningen have installed new DECCA equipment. DECCASPOT will be included in the new system. This feature enables the radar screen to show any desired feature on the screen. DECCASPOT system replaces the interscan system and reportedly eliminates the inaccuracies of the previous system. Video recording of the radar pictures is another new feature which permits the operator to play back the original.
