ULTRASONICS FOR THE CONTROL OF CONCRETE MANUFACTURING TECHNOLOGY

THE RATE OF SOUND PROPAGATION IN THE ULTRASONIC TEST IS A REFLECTION OF THE ELASTICITY OF THE CONCRETE. IF THE SOUND SPEED IS DETERMINED CONTINUOUSLY DURING THE SETTING PROCESS, THE INFORMATION OBTAINED CAN BE USED TO ASSESS THE INCREASE IN STRENGTH. THUS IT CAN BE PROVED THAT DURING VIBRATION THE STRENGTH DECREASES INITIALLY (THIXOTROPIC FLOW OF THE CEMENT PASTE), AND THEN INCREASES (COMPACTION). THE OPTIMUM VIBRATION TIME CAN THEREFORE BE DETERMINED. MOREOVER THE POINT OF TIME OF THE ONSET OF SETTING, AND THE EFFECTS OF HEAT TREATMENT OR THOSE OF HARDENING AT LOW TEMPERATURES CAN BE ESTABLISHED.
