EDGE DETAILS OF CARRIAGEWAYS

The author describes and illustrates practical experience with carriageway edgings. Various types of road from the motorway to the street are considered together with various drainage systems. The author discusses concrete stopping lanes, reflective edge markings, white concrete or ceramic slabs, concrete sections having a noise-producing surface profile, edge strips which are made separate from or together with the road, high, inclined, flat and deep KERBS moulded Gussasphalt and asphaltic concrete KERBS, foundation and rear support of high KERBS, mechanical construction and other matters. Advantages and disadvantages are indicated, and proposals made for KERBS for roads carrying different traffic volumes. Brief details are given of a comparison of manufacturing costs. The various causes of deffects which have occurred are explained. /TRRL/
