GAS TURBINE DRIVEN CONTAINERSHIP LAUNCHED
General discussion of the new containership Euroliner that will be operating on gas turbine engines as main propulsion vs. steam or diesel plant propulsion is provided. Some basic physical data are given but of more importance is the description of the engines and their capabilities. An entire new concept in ship operations is utilized for this and sister ships, the author noting in particular 24 hour engine replacement time to achieve lowest trip recycling. A short description of propulsion layout and excursions from the norm is also included.
