EFFECTS OF CATHODIC PROTECTION ON CREVICE CORROSION IN SEAWATER
Tests of 90 days and one year duration on two common stainless steel alloys and a nickel copper alloy were carried out to determine the effects of cathodic protection on crevice corrosion in still seawater. Tests were carried out using alloy strips attached to bare carbon steel panels, painted carbon steel panels, painted carbon steel panels with anode protection and with uncoupled strips of the alloys. Uncoupled strips were pitted or corroded. With coupled strips, crevice corrosion was nearly eliminated with all alloys. Test procedures are described and data given in tables of specimen description and corrosion description. Pictures also illustrate test procedures and results.
