TRENDS IN RAILWAY BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION
TENDENZEN IM EISENBAHNBRUCKENBAU
Proceeding from a detailed analysis of existing bridges in the German Federal Railway network based on numbers, year built, materials used, clear span, and activated values, the author has worked out the economic importance of the smaller bridges and the development trends, and comes out in favour of deck bridges for the smaller spans since these are simple to design and can be produced in series. The special problems of new railway routes are also discussed.
