WELDING ALUMINUM FOR LNG SPHERICAL TANKS
A welding method for constructing spherical aluminum tanks for use in liquefied natural gas ships is described. Certain problems which are encountered in welding aluminum, such as the rapid oxidation of aluminum and the removal of all moisture from the surface of the metal, are discussed and the solutions are described. The manner in which the former hand welding procedure has been automated is also described.
