VIKOMA SYSTEM DESIGNED TO CONTROL AND LIMIT OIL SPILLS OCCURRING AT SEA
A new boom for controlling and limiting sea pollution by oil, and a skimmer for removing oil from the surface of the sea, comprise a system for the clearance of oil spills at sea. The boom is packed in a specially designed fiberglass hull ready for transport. Descriptions of the boom and its deployment unit, including its operation both at sea and inshore, are given, and capacities for both the boom and the skimmer are included. Methods for maneuvering the boom to best contain the oil, subsequent cleanup operations, and boom recovery, as well as system maintenance are all discussed in the article.
