SINGLE-POINT MOORING UNITS ANALYZED
A technique has been developed analytically to simulate single-point mooring systems, and this program is able to analyze both ship-buoy interaction and buoy survival. In design work, the analysis can optimize features of a system, and it can also be used to determine system loads and predict long-term service. The program to be solved by this analysis is stated, and the method of solution is discussed. The method of analysis, including buoy motion, wave force, hawser, and spectral analysis, among others, is described, and the author feels that by utilizing this analysis technique, a series of model tests can be reduced to a single confirmation test, which would cut the total cost of model testing significantly.
