A BARGE CARRIER DESIGN STUDY
This paper, based on the results of an optimisation study which looked at a new type of barge carrier designed to overcome some operational disadvantages experienced with existing LASH ships, describes the new barge carrier system which uses the concept of floating the barge units into and out of the carrier. This concept is described, with its advantages over existing LASH ships explained. The loading sequence for a vessel utilizing this concept is diagrammed, and a cost comparison between a LASH vessel and this new type of barge carrier is also included.
