DEEP WATER MOORING--1. ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS CONTROL STATION KEEPING METHODS
Rapid emergence of the ultradeep water drilling era makes this 3-part series on Deep Water Mooring most timely. Operators and contractors currently are discussing water depths up to 6000 ft for drilling in the relatively near future. This 1-st installment deals primarily with a number of approaches to accomplish deep water spread mooring. It discusses methods to extend existing rig's depth capability as well as design of new rigs for extended deep water operations. A brief comparison with dynamic positioning is included.
