COMPARISON OF WAVE FORCES COMPUTED BY LINEAR AND STREAM FUNCTION METHODS
The Wave Project I and II data consist of simultaneous measurements of water surface displacements and wave forces at different vertical elevations along platform piles. Wave Projects I and II data are utilized in a comparative study to evaluate the capability of linear wave theory to evaluate the kinematics of some of the larger waves measured. In particular, a set of wave and wave force data are selected and forces are calculated by the Morison equation based on the linear filter method and the stream function method with published drag and inertia coefficients. A "relative standard deviation" is defined and represents an index of the goodness-of-fit between the measured and calculated wave forces.
