SOME APPLICATIONS OF SOLID-STATE CIRCUIT INTO SHIPBOARD ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT
ALCUNE APPLICAZIONI DEI CIRCUITI ALLO STATO SOLIDO NEGLI IMPIANTI ELETTRICI DI BORDO
After a review of the various applications of solid state circuits on shipboard, an examination is made of three circuits, i.e., the exciting equipment for the synchronous generators, deck machinery for variable speed operation, and the high frequency feeding of fluorescent lighting. The power diodes have enabled the excitation of alternators with a technique different from the conventional one because the direct current, obtained by rectifying the voltage of a small exciting alternator with fixed poles and rotary armature is taken to the main alternator pole wheel through conductors running in the engine hollow shaft.
