CLEANUP EQUIPMENT FOR SPILLS IS ARRAYED FOR IMMEDIATE USE IN GULF OF MEXICO
A flotilla of the latest systems for containment and cleanup of oil spills at sea has been assembled by Clean Gulf Associates, a nonprofit organization of 36 companies, for use in the Gulf of Mexico. Clean Gulf is organized to maintain, on 24-hr call, equipment for use in Louisiana offshore and coastal waters. The organization will also evaluate technological advances for possible inclusion in the equipment stockpile. Current membership includes companies representing 98% of the daily liquid hydrocarbon production in the area. The equipment, including booms, skimmers, foam and chemical dispersants, and a complete water fowl rehabilitation station, consists of 4 basic types: fast response opensea and bay systems, shallow water systems, auxiliary equipment, and a high-volume open-sea system.
