GUIDELINE AND DEVELOPING PROCESS CONCERNING THE DUAL MODE BUS SYSTEM
This report analyzes the feasibility and plans for establishing the dual mode bus system in Japan. The system is already being investigated by Roy, G.M. and TTI in America under U.S. government contracts. Based on existing data, the authors of this report seem to think the utilization of the dual mode system will solve many of the service problems public transportation is facing in the traffic congested Japan. The system aims to provide neighborhood bus type services in the residential areas and high speed transportation in the commercial areas. The main bus terminal will be located in the suburbs. The buses will be manually driven in the suburbs but as soon as they enter the urban area and onto the guideway the automatic control assumes control. The control center directs the speed and control by using the point system. To insure safety I.T.V. supervision is probably necessary. The contruction of the vehicles will have manually-operated speed control, boarding control, automatic switching to activate the control system on the guideway, automatic check-up and a switch for the main electric source. The automatic control system has been designed. A two year plan to test run to existing model and to develop plans for the final refinement of the system is projected/
