Two surveys on the actual use of personal cars in cities by the general public and by families who own more than one car lay the groundwork for a feasibility study of personal urban vehicles. The data analysis will classify the users of actual vehicles and the usage of each type of vehicle. A cost analysis will identify potential markets; possible substitution is simulated and the impact on the environment is evaluated. The reasons for the success of the bicycle in the Netherlands are analysed; the Dutch bike is of functional design and well fitted to the geography and the high density population. It does not bear any social mark down and enjoys special lanes and traffic signals. Also shown is an abstract of the second symposium on the promotion of low pollution systems for automobiles. The U.S., France, Great Britain, Italy, the Netherlands, and West Germany have agreed to share information on the improvements of conventional engines, novel engines, and new fuels.
