INVESTIGATION OF ONE-LANE ACCELERATION-ENTRY LANES ONTO TWO-LANE HIGHWAYS
UNTERSUCHUNG VON EINFAEDELUNGSSPUREN AN KNOTENPUNKTEN ZWEISPURIGER LANDSTRASSEN
This report is a preliminary investigation of the pros and cons of one-lane acceleration-entry lanes onto two-lane highways, i.e., highways with one lane of traffic in each direction. They were investigated from the standpoint of safety, efficiency, and economy. Although the report included a survey of such entry lanes in Germany and in other countries, the main emphasis of the report was an evaluation of a questionnaire which had been sent to the various Road or Highway Commissioners in Germany. The report ended with suggestions for further research into the problems connected with different types of intersections and traffic flow and how they could be solved by the use of one-lane acceleration-entry lanes.
