THE INFLUENCE OF STRUCTURAL CHARACTERISTICS ON SLAMMING IMPACT PRESSURES
This paper presents an examination of seakeeping model and two-dimensional drop test peak impact pressure data in the light of a theoretical pressure that takes account of model material and elastic characteristics. A model- size scale effect noted in drop tests is examined in the light of a panel parameter which has been defined for theoretical pressure. The test results indicate qualitative agreement with theory when model size is accounted for by this panel parameter. It is concluded that differences in the magnitude of drop tests and seakeeping model peak impact pressure are consistent with predicted effects of different model material and elastic characteristics. Test results are all below the theoretical pressure for a plate with air on both sides.
