LOW FREQUENCY FORCES ON A BODY IN RANDOM WAVES
The problem of low frequency, nonlinear forces on a body caused by water waves is considered. A method is presented for calculating the two dimensional forces on a cylinder due to periodic waves containing one or two frequency components, using a second order perturbation approach. A two term Volterra functional series is then used to predict the behavior of the force when the waves are random. The results are compared to experimental data for both periodic and random excitation.
