ALGEBRAIC THEORY OF SCHEDULING

This paper presents a formal definition of craft scheduling and crew scheduling, using established mathematical concepts taken primarily from group theory. This formal description is then used to discuss the optimization of craft/crew scheduling and the nature of the general algorithmic difficulties present in this area.
