THE AIRPORT CITY CONCEPT

New species of airplanes promising great economies in operation are about to go into service. These can greatly stimulate freight and passenger traffic. Investment in specialized airports required for the effective use of these will be very high. With appropriate terminal, traffic control, and access facilities, employment of these airplanes can usher in a new era of national and international trade, travel, and stability. Major airports and high value-added industry are not only compatible, but symbiotic. Removal of these from proximity to urban areas and grouping them carefully into symbiotic closely controlled cities can greatly alleviate problems facing existing cities, air transportation, and manufacturing industry. Construction and operation of appropriate facilities can best be accomplished by private industry in partnership with state governments and with minimal participation by the Federal Government.
