OPTIMIZING COMMON CARRIER TERMINAL LOCATIONS
This paper develops a method for achieving optimum terminal locations--in this case, common carrier, inter-city terminals. Although the technique was developed in connection with a study of transportation in the Buffalo, New York, region, it is equally applicable anywhere. This paper is organized as follows: (1) a statement of the problem, (2) an introduction to the solution in outline form, (3) a treatment of each of the steps in the outline as a general case with consideration of relevant conceptual possibilities, (4) an explanation of the mathematics involved, and (5) an application of these concepts to the Buffalo case with some significant findings.
